Duaner Sanchez and Mets agree to new contract

Right handed reliever Duaner Sanchez and The New York Mets have avoided arbitration and have agreed on a 1 year contract worth $1,687,500. Sanchez was a good reliever for the Mets in '06 until he was in a taxi cab accident and had to have shoulder surgery that sidelined him for the rest of the '06 season and all of the '07 season. His numbers for last season were:

W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV SVO IP H R ER HR BB SO
2008 5 1 4.32 66 0 0 0 0 1 58.1 54 28 28 6 23 44

Not great but not horrible either, especially with the rest of the pen that was plain horrible. Obviously with J.J. Putz now on the Mets Sanchez is no longer the setup guy for our closer but I think he could still be a good middle reliever, perhaps our 7th inning guy to help with the bridge to K-Rod.
