Mets sign Alex Cora

The Mets have signed Alex Cora. The deal is said to be for one year and valued at 2 million dollars. Cora has played for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1998 to 2004. During his time with the Dodgers he was a 2nd Baseman as well as a shortstop, moving to fulltime 2nd basemen when Cesar Izturis joined the team. Cora has since played for the Cleaveland Indians playing left fielder and for the Boston Red Sox playing 3rd Base.

Cora is known for having an 18 pitch at bat against Matt Clement. Facing a 2 ball, 1 strike count Cora fouled off 14 straight pitches before hitting a Homerun.

Below is Cora's stats as of 2008.

Games AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BA
Career 1034 2805 303 688 117 34 34 242 33 .245

I personally think this a very good pickup by the Mets. Cora can play several posistions, including second base, would be nice to have a backup there for Luis Castillo. Cora adds a good bat off the bench, can give a lot of the regulars a day off down the stretch when needed.
