Freddy Garcia signs with The New York Mets

Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that the Mets have signed veteran right hander Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract. The contract is loaded with incentives making it worth potentially 8-10 million dollars.

I think this is a good signing for the Mets. Garcia came cheap as I said above most of the money is in incentives such as innings pitched, appearances, games started, etc... While Garcia is a good pickup and will compete with Tim Redding and John Niese for the 5th spot in the rotation, he's not the answer for the rotation problems. The Mets still need to sign a good number 2 be it Olliver Perez or Ben Sheets.

Whoever wins out between Garcia and Redding for the number 5 spot one of them will be placed in the bullpen I believe as a long relief guy and that only increases the strength of our pen in my opinion.
